Muni’s first streetcar was re-introduced to the public and city officials Thursday in celebration of the nation’s first publicly owned transit system, which is turning 100.
Though Muni’s birthday is not until Dec. 28, Mayor Ed Lee joined U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein and other city officials to kick off the celebration by sharing their Muni stories and being among the first to ride the rehabilitated streetcar along the Embarcadero.
Those interested in photos of Muni from the past can visit the Municipal Transportation Agency’s photo archieve website or visit City Hall in a May exhibit displayed on the fourth floor.
Muni riders should soon see streetcar No. 1 back on the F-Market line.
