The political clout of the San Francisco Police Officers Association is waning, says Mission Local’s managing editor, Joe Eskenazi. So what should we make of revelations that the union’s former president, Gary Delagnes, sent a letter in 2018 threatening to release the confidential disciplinary record of Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer’s husband, a retired police officer? We also discuss how this news recasts the supervisor’s now infamous chant of “F*** the POA” on election day and the police union’s own upcoming internal election.

“You have to meet a certain set of conditions in order to be able to ask for them, there has to be sustained complaints, etc. You’re certainly not allowed to release them as a matter of political vengeance, and not really allowed to release them at will.” — Joe Eskenazi
