U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer recently voiced concerns about the U.S. Navy's cleanup efforts of the Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard in a letter forwarded to The San Francisco Bay Guardian.

“As Chair of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, I am focused on protecting the health and environment of the Bay Area, including the Bayview Hunters Point community,” read Boxer's letter forwarded to the San Francisco Bay Guardian.

Boxer's letter also states that she feels the new leadership of the Environmental Protection Agency would be positive for the Hunter's Point cleanup efforts. The report of Boxer's interest in the Naval Shipyard arrived after The San Francisco Bay Guardian reported that the Hunters Point Shipyard Restoration Advisory Board, which worked as the citizen's voice for the clean-up effort, is being disbanded.

The Navy also will be releasing a feasibility study in July of the cleanup of Parcel E, which is the parcel that houses radiological waste.
